In today’s Google Webmaster Video with Matt Cutts of Google’s webspam team he answers what the top 5 SEO mistakes are currently for webmasters, small business owners, and people trying to optimize their website with great SEO strategies.
He lays out the top 5 SEO areas that are the most common mistakes that people and companies make with Search Engine Optimization.
The first one is not having a website at all or not allowing your website to be crawled about Google. In this day and age if you don’t have a website you shouldn’t even be in business.
The second mistake is not including the keywords in text on the page. You have to think about what the user will type and make sure similar text and language is on your website so they can find it. You don’t want to just say “internet marketing Arizona” or “Scottsdale SEO” for example, you might say how to be ranked on the first page of Google.
The third mistake is solely just thinking about link building for rankings vs link building by using compelling content or target links that will actually get you sales. You should think about the broader area of marketing including reaching out to people in the community or talking to local media or reporters.
The fourth mistake is people forget to use page titles, meta descriptions which can help conversions and click through rates. You want to make a great experience but also entice them to click on your resource.
